The forces of nature are powerful as evidenced in this late September scene looking east up Knik River Valley (from the Glenn Highway south of Palmer). The energy generated during this geomagnetic aurora substorm is perhaps 100,000 volts. That's a big battery in the sky... if we only knew how to tap into it.
On the right, snow-capped Pioneer Peak (6398 ft) is the result of plate tectonic forces "docking" the Chugach Mountains against Alaska 65 million years ago, an earth-shaking process still going on today.
